Andy Merline is a Shareholder of the firm and a Greenville, South Carolina native whose practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, business and transactional law, entity formation and tax structuring, succession planning, estate and trust planning, estate administration, taxation, and asset protection. He regularly advises multi generational family businesses and high net worth individuals, helping clients implement thoughtful planning strategies aligned with their personal and financial goals. Andy’s path to becoming a tax and business attorney began with an interest in entrepreneurship and business operations. After graduating from Clemson University, he gained hands-on business experience and later volunteered at a pro bono legal services clinic, which sparked his passion for advising business owners and families on complex legal and tax matters. At the University of South Carolina School of Law, he earned CALI Awards in Partnership Taxation, Legal Writing, Tort Theory, and Law, Society and Justice, and received the Capers Bouton Scholarship Award. He later obtained his Master of Laws in Taxation from Boston University School of Law. Andy is active in the legal community through the American Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar, where he has served as Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair of both the Probate, Estate and Trust Section and the Tax Law Section. He is also involved with the Greenville County Bar Association, the Greenville Estate Planning Council, and the Greenville Estate Planning Study Group. His recognitions include The Best Lawyers in America, Greenville Business Magazine Legal Elite, and South Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Star. Outside the office, Andy enjoys spending time with his wife, Erin, and attending Buncombe Street Methodist Church. His interests include tennis, weightlifting, sports cars, and the outdoors.
